George Francis, 66, of 19 Becket Street, Hartford, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, (September 16, 2008) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Born in Clarendon, Jamaica on January 8, 1942, son of the late Cornelius and Fredricka (Bailey) Francis, he had lived in Jamaica until migrating to the United States five years ago. Before moving to be closer to his family in the United States, George worked for the Koury family for over 30 years, and spent most of his time as a supervisor at their fabric company, American Dreams. Since 2004, George had worked at the Seabury Retirement Community, and was known by everyone for his hard work, dedication, kindness and dependability. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing dominoes, sewing clothes and upholstery for his home, his family and his friends, cooking, and being with his family. Most of all, George will be remembered as a jovial man who was very giving and was known and loved by everyone. His family and friends will miss his traditional Jamaican soups and natural juices, and his dependability to help with anything.
He leaves three sons, Phillip Ricardo Francis, Kemoy Mario Francis, and Akeem Kareem Francis, all of Jamaica; four daughters, Nadine Lorraine Francis and her husband Richard Blackwood, Ingrid May Francis, and Sharon Elaine Francis, all of Hartford, and Tenessia Akedia Francis of Jamaica; three sisters, Meva Francis, Pearl Young, and Mavis Francis all of Jamaica; his former wife and good friend, Norma Francis of Hartford; his former partner, Cassel Erskine of Jamaica; his good friend, Denise George of Hartford; and his good friend, Delmina Jackson of Florida; 12 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Dwight Francis; and a daughter, Angela Erica Francis.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor.
Burial will be in Dovecot Cemetery in St. Catherine, Jamaica on Saturday, September 27, 2008.
His Family will receive Friends on Saturday, September 20 from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. prior to the services at the Funeral Home.
