Paul Keith "Augie" Augenstein, 76, Cardington died early Sunday morning February 23, 2014 at Morrow County Hospital; a mix of comedian, musician, sports enthusiast, authority on any topic and champion for his family. As Dad and Grandpa he was a top fan for each. Sporting events? He was there. Family celebration? He was there. Band concerts, dance recitals, Friday morning sister coffee; you could find him there.

Born February 24, 1937 to the late Paul and Leelo (Jones) Augenstein of Waldo. Keith attended Waldo schools and briefly attended Harding High School where he graduated in 1955. He married Marilee Johnston on January 29, 1955; she preceded him in death in June 1991. From their love came seven children, 27 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Keith coached youth and high school baseball for most of his life, was founder of United Church Directories and part owner of 20th Century Publication. He owned and operated Crystal Ice and Locker as well as Waldo Cheese Meat & More with his late wife, and most recently was employed by Gompf Funeral Service.

Keith was an avid horseman early in life and downsized to chickens later in his life, as they were easier. He had a passion for all sports and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren, always there to encourage and support them. He prided himself in being busy and being involved in his family's life.

Keith co-founded the Morrow County Junior Miss Scholarship Program, has served on the Morrow County Fair Board, Ohio Harness Horseman's Assoc., Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Assoc., and was an OHSAA Certified Umpire for baseball/softball and part of the Marion Umpire's Assoc.

Keith is survived by daughters, Robyn (Bob) Stiffler, Marengo, LeAnne (Gene) Gompf, Cardington, Marna (Rick) Cloutier, Wilsonville, AL, Lorena McAvoy (Shawn Boller), Mt Gilead; and son Don (Patty) Augenstein, Newport, NC.

In addition to his wife Keith was preceded in death by his son, Merritt E Augenstein; daughter, Brenda (Clovis) L Dye; sister, DeGloria Buckingham; and brother, Jack Augenstein.

In lieu of flowers family is requesting memorial donations to Wounded Warrior Project or The All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir in care of Gompf Funeral Service, 440 S Center St. Cardington, OH 43315.

Family and friends may call at Gompf Funeral Service Tuesday February 25, 2014 1-3 pm and 5 - 8 pm. Services will be held Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Waldo Cemetery.
