Edna Henrie Price Alexander passed away on May 21, 2005 in Redding, Calif. She was born Edna Henrie in Manti, Utah on June 12, 1919 to Hettie Jemima Alder and Alphonso Henrie. She was the second of three children, who also included Alder (Hank) and Vivian. Edna had a life-long love of sporting events which included baseball and football.

She went to school and received her RN degree in Provo, Utah and married Joseph Lyndon Price, who was a medical intern at the time. Edna and Joe moved to California where he was stationed out of Fort Ord as a doctor, and eventually moved to Redding, where he set up his medical practice. Edna worked in his office and had many hobbies and outside interests.

In 1950 they adopted sons Michael Warren and Patrick Lyndon. In 1954 they adopted their daughter, Salli Ann. In 1968, after the death of Joe Price, Edna moved to Palo Alto, where she worked as a nurse at Stanford University Hospital. She was a participant in many local charitable organizations and philanthropic causes, and kept many of the same friends as she had while in Redding. She would try her hand at anything and spent her middle years roller skating, painting and sewing. She met and married Marvin Alexander, who also had three children, Jeff, Lauren and Ann. In 1982 the couple moved to Lake Almanor, where they lived full-time until 1994. They then purchased a home in Chico, and spent their time between both homes until recently. Marvin passed away in September 2004.

Edna most recently took history and knitting classes, went out to lunch with her many wonderful friends, and stayed involved with a variety of groups, including the Prime Timers, Chico State University, the Snowbirds and she also spent quite a bit of time with her children and grandchildren, who loved to gather around her and listen to stories from years gone by. However, even at 85 Edna was never "old;" she was an active and involved mother and grandmother and made sure everyone was always included. She took a great interest in their activities and successes and spoke to or visited with them often.

Edna was survived by her three children, Michael, Patrick (Donna) of Chico, Salli (Michael Welsh) of Los Altos; stepchildren, Jeff, Lauren and Ann; grandchildren, Marie, Joe and Krystie Price, Justin, Tyler and Lindsay Bertain, Christopher Price, Carly and Layne Cross, Julia Alexander, Natalie and Alex Hill; great-grandchild, Calvin Price; brother, Hank and sister, Vivian.

Edna was a fabulous mother, loyal friend and excellent companion. She will be greatly missed, and often remembered.

Graveside services will be at Chester Cemetery, Chester, Calif., Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at Northwood Commons Clubhouse, Chico. on June 4 at 2:30 p.m. Donations in Edna's memory can be made to the charity of your choice or to the Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, Ga. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home.
