Stoker Koopvaardij [Stoker Netherlands Merchant Navy]. Employee of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoomboot Maatschappij [KNSM - Royal Dutch Steamship Company]. He died as a result of his ship, S.S. Ajax, being attacked and sunk by German bombers near Catharina Point, Isle of Wight whilst it was in convoy CW9-Peewit. Crewmen Jacob Bruining Smit, Arie Toet and Pieter Spaans also died as a result of the attack.

Husband of Sophia Maria Olbertijn. Son of Jacobus Baaij and Anna Schop.

Originally buried in grave (Y-3-25) at Milton Cemetery, Portsmouth, England. Reburied on October 6, 1964 in the Netherlands Field of Honour, Mill Hill. Also commemorated on the KNSM Monument, KNSM Lane, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland.
