DARIEN— Isabelle Ames, 88, of W9157 US Hwy 14, Darien, WI, died at Mercy Manor, Janesville, WI, on Friday, Sept. 24, 2004. Isabelle was born on March 9, 1916, in Chemung, IL, the daughter of Wm. Davidson and Sarah "sadie" McCartney. Isabelle graduated from the University of Illinois in 1937 with a double major in English and French. She then taught school in two one-room schools. She married John D. Ames on June 15, 1940, in Harvard, IL. Isabelle was an avid reader and gardener. She was instrumental in the successful operation of Ames Farms and was devoted to her husband and family. She had a huge collection of classic dolls. She enjoyed quilting very much. Isabelle is survived by her husband, John D. Ames of Darien; 9 children: Phyllis "Suzie" (Ray) Henschler of Janesville, Janice (Bob) Berezowitz of Darien, Bonnie Ames of Jefferson, Dianne Meske of Janesville, Dennis (Ellen) Ames of Darien, John Jr. (Margie) Ames of Sturtevant, WI, David (Pam) Ames of Darien, Tom (Barb) Ames of Watertown, WI, and Ray (Sherri) Ames of Lake Geneva; 19 grandchildren: Kathie, Lynete, Matt, Jason, Dan, Steve, Becky, Bonnie, Amy, Sarah, Susie, Michaella, David, Ann Marie, Robert, Andy, Amanda, Ben, Brad, and Amanda; 14 greatgrandchildren: Jamis,Harry, Magie, Jack, Jase, Bryan, Brayden, Zachary, Jordan, Alexa, Maddie, Joey, Jesse and Jacob; a sister, Hannah Ames of Harvard; a sister-in-law, Selma Davidson of Harvard; and brother-in-law, Ben Ames. She was predeceased by 2 sisters-in law, Alice Ames and Mellie Masterson; a brother, Bill Davidson; and 2 grandchildren, Wm. and Cindy. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at the FIRst Presbyterian Church , 7100 Harvard Hills Road, Harvard, IL, with the Rev. Jeff Borgerson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Betzer funeral home in Delavan from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Isabelle Ames Scholarship Fund c/o the Ames Family. Betzer Funeral Home is serving the Ames Family. 262-728-2500.
