After a lingering illness of many months, Alfred Benson, one of the Pioneers in this vicinity, passed away peacefully on the 11th day of January 1918 at his home in Ong. He had reached the age of 68 years 6 month and 22 days.
Mr Benson was born in Visjo in the Province of Skåne Sweden on the 19th day of June 1849. Over there he was a member of the Lutheran Church. He arrived in this country in 1875 and made his first home in Stanton, Iowa at that place, the same year, the 16th of September, he was married in Ingrid Bengston. This union was blessed with six children, two of these are dead, but the other four are all living near Ong.
The stay at Stanton was of short duration. From that place they moved to Fairmont, Neb., where lived for two years, was engaged as section foreman for the Burlington. In 1878 the Benson family settled down on a farm in Clay County near Ong where the lived until some nine years ago when Mr and Mrs Benson made their home in Ong.
Mr Benson together with his family joined the Stockholm Lutheran church in 1879 and he was a good and faithful member until his death. Funeral services were held last Sunday from the home in Ong and from the Stockholm Lutheran church. Although the weather was cold there was a large attendance at the funeral services. The remains were laid to rest at the Stockholm cemetery.
Mr Benson leaves to mourn him, his wife, four children, John E Benson, Gust Benson, Mrs Emmert Nelson and Carl Benson, nine grandchildren , many other relatives and a large number of friends and associates in the church and vicinity.
