Dorothy Elizabeth Aclkland was born to Ernest Blumanthal and Sara Beck Blumanthal on December 3, 1922, at Sutton. She passed away on February 23, 2004, at her home in Grafton at the age of 81 years, two months and 20 days. She was one of seven children in the family.

Dorothy attended school through the eighth grade.

She was married to Tom Ackland in Belleville, Kan. on June 12, 1947, and to them four children were born. The family lived in Geneva for 14 years before moving to Grafton in 1962. Dorothy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Dorothy loved to crochet, do word search puzzles and bird watch. She collected trivets and thimbles and was always looking for new and unique ones to add to her collection. She also loved butterflies, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them to do word searches, playing rummy and to crochet. Sharing bubble gum with her grandchildren, her jar of water and her special fried potatoes with eggs, were also what made her so special. Attending antique engine and tractor shows with Tom was also a joy for Dorothy.

Her parents, two brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Tom of Grafton; sons, Allen and wife Melodee, Lenny and wife Judy; daughters, Kathy Ackland, and Carol Oliver; brothers, Albert Blumanthal, and Rhiney Blumanthal; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 26 with Pastor Matt Zimpelmann officiating. Sue Baumann accompanied the congregational signing of "Amazing Grace" and Judy Ackland provided the prelude selection on piano of "The Old Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were Allen Ackland, Jr., Michael Ackland, Jason Ackland, Shane Oliver, Daniel Ackland and Jason Gowen.

Honorary bearers were Cathleen Berglund, Roxanne Lott, Tracy Gowen, Erin Ackland, Bruce Berglund, Jeff Lott, Jenny Ackland and Arlo Griess.
