Obituary for Louisa Jane Freeze:
"MISS LOUISE FRIEZE, AGED 50. Miss Louisa Frieze, daughter of the late Jacob Frieze, died suddenly, Wednesday, at the home of her nephew, W. H. McLaughlin, proprietor of Hopewell Mills, east of town. She wasin her customary good health when, about five o'clock, she walked into the yard and talked to her nieces, Clara and Hattie McLaughlin, daughters of W. H. McLaughlin. Telling them that supper would soon be ready for them, she turned and walked toward the house. Before she reached it she fell prone upon the ground. The little girls hurried into the house and told their mother their aunt had fallen to the ground. Mrs. McLaughlin hastened to the yard but when she reached there Miss Frieze was dead. Dr. A. H. Strickler was summoned and, after an examination, pronounced heart trouble the cause of death. Miss Frieze was born in Adams County. For a number of years, she resided at Hopewell Mills, then owned by George Besore, at which her father was miller. Mr. Frieze afterward purchased a large farm and mill in Peters Township near Mercersburg. One of his daughters married the late Geo. [sic--should read James] G. McLaughlin, of this place. Miss Lizzie (sic) Frieze has made her home with her nephew, Wm. H. McLaughlin, at Hopewell Mills, her former home, for the past eighteen years. Miss Frieze wasa member of the Lutheran Church and a woman of exceptional kindness of manner, warm-hearted, helpful to all who came within her sphere. Her death will bring profound sorrow to all who knew her. Surviving are these sisters: Mrs. Anna McLaughlin, East Main Street; Mrs. GeorgeSteiger, Mercersburg; Mrs. Harry Brown and Mrs. Amanda Hassler, Lehmaster. Miller W. H. McLaughlin and Motorman Elmer McLaughlin, of the C. G. & W. Trolley Line, and Proprietor H. W. McLaughlin, of Hotel McLaughlin, Greencastle, are nephews of the deceased. Funeral services, Saturday, 10 a.m., at house, conducted by Rev. A. H. Shertz, Quincy. Interment in Burns Hill Cemetery."
