Last Wednesday evening R.H. Bloomfield died at his place of residence on Lafourche Street, from consumption. Mr. Bloomfield was 36 years of age and a native of Canada. He had lived in Donaldsonville four or five years, during the greater portion of which time he occupied the position of Parish Surveyor, being a civil engineer by profession. The illness resulting in his death began to develop in serious form two years and a half ago, since which time he has been gradually wasting away under its consuming influences. He leaves a young widow to mourn him--formerly a Miss Poirrier of St. James. They had been blessed with two children, during the course of their married life, but both succumbed to the fatal seeds of disease inherited from the father and died in early babyhood. Mr. Bloomfield was a man of firm character and sterling principles, prompt and methodical in his business dealings but with a kind heart that always had a warm side turned towards his friends. The misfortunes which beset him during the later years of his life excited general sympathy, which will now be transferred to the patient and long enduring wife who so faithfully cared for him during the many weary months of his final illness. A day or two before his death Mr. Bloomfield was christened in the Catholic faith, Sister Louise of St. Vincent's and Rev. Father Cuppens standing as godmother and godfather respectfully.
Children:
Benjamin McLeran Bloomfield - 21 Feb 1876-Apr 1876
Marguerite Amelie Bloomfield - 4 Jan 1878-23 Nov 1878
Parents: Charles Bloomfield & Margaret Decew
