Christian Martin was the first Martin to move into the Big Spring Farm, aka, The Spring Ike Farm, in 1796. His father, Martin Martin, who is not buried in this cemetery, bought the farm for his young married son. Christian's motto was "Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today." On the day of Christian's funeral the Conestoga Creek was very high. The overflow was know as "the Big Flood". One in the family had a difficult time to find a place to cross the creek when coming to the funeral. Christian, in the farm deed, reserved the farmstead cemetery for all his descendants and relatives forever. (A few who were not Martin's were buried here before the Martins lived on the farm.)
