Nina M. (Mattox) Branham, age 86 went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, May 11, 2012 at her residence in Franklin. She was a former resident of Brown County.
Nina was born February 21, 1926 in Jasonville to the late James E. & Mary Ellen (Blevins) Mattox. She married Leslie H. Branham on December 24, 1954 in Shelbyville. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2002 after 47 devoted years. She was a 1944 graduate of CoalmontHigh School in Coalmont. Nina retired in 1981 from United Technologies in Edinburgh as a Press Operator after 20 years of service. Prior to that, she worked for Kingins Packing Company in Indianapolis and as a Nurses Aid at the Franklin United Methodist Community.
Nina leaves behind three daughters: Janice M. (Bill) Whetstine of Bargersville, Terresa L. Branham & Pam (Terry) Edwards both of Franklin; one son: Mark S. (Joni) Branham of Fall Brook, CA; and one stepson: James L. Branham of Honolulu, HI. She will be remembered by her six grandchildren: Catherine, Wayne, Daryl, Drew, Samantha & Steven; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Nina was preceded in death by a step daughter: Jackie Gouty; four sisters: Edna Beadle, Elsie Dean, Ivy Lifford & Maudie Mattox; four brothers: Ed, Clarence, Oral & Wayne Mattox.
She was a 52 year member of the Locust Grove Pentecostal Church in Brown County, where she was the former pianist for many years. Nina was also a member of the Hickory Ridge Senior Center in Brown County. She loved cooking for her family and was known for her Banana Cake and homemade noodles. Nina enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cake decorating and painting. She also enjoyed working word search puzzles and riding her beloved horse 'Cody'. Nina looked forward to the Peoga Parade every year, which she participated in presenting the flag at the beginning of the parade.
The Rev. Jay Griffie will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am Tuesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
