PIONEER CIRCUIT RIDER PASSES AWAY
*****
Was the Father of Mrs R W Taylor of Villa Grove
Villa Grove, Nov 6 -- Mrs R W Taylor has returned from Boonville, Ind where she was called by the critical illness of her father, the late Rev J D Kiper who died Oct 27 at the home of his son, Judge Roscoe Kiper.
Rev Mr Kiper was one of the last pioneer circuit riders.
He was born in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky (famous as the birth place of Abraham Lincoln) in 1838 if he had lived until next February he would have been 89 years of age.
He served three years and seven months in the Civil War. Soon after the close of the war he entered the missionary and was ordained in due time.
His wife died nineteen years ago, Oct 25. There are eleven living children. seven whom were at their father's bedside when he passed away. The funeral was held Saturday and burial was beside his wife in the Boonville Cemetery. The aged gentleman had visited here and is remembered for his jovial kindly manner toward everyone.
Obit from the Decatur Review (Decatur, Illinois); Friday, 06 Nov 1925; pg 5.
