Rosemary Schallhorn of 504 Oakland St., Seatonville, who loved the Lord Jesus, went home to be with Him on Sept. 16, 2010. No more pain. No more sorrow. Only joy forever in heaven with Him.
A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Princeton Bible Church with pastor Ken Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.
Visitation will be 5:30-8 p.m. Monday in Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and a half hour before services Tuesday in the church.
Rosemary was born May 29, 1931, in Rockford. Her parents were Edward and Rose (Caumiant) Bergstrom.
Rosemary was a member of Princeton Bible Church. She graduated from Hall High School. She took Evangelical teachers training classes from Wheaton College, correspondence classes from Moody Bible College and Back to the Bible, as well as classes from the U. of I. Extension.
She was skilled in alterations, sewing, upholstery, quilting, floral, food, art classes, portraiture and Palette K. She participated in University of Illinois Summer Camp one-week sessions and Northern Illinois
University/Professor Serick six-week sessions. She also assisted in the field work on the family farm in Bureau County. As part of her community service, Rosemary taught children's painting classes for Illinois Valley Art League and Princeton Christian Academy. She was a Christian Woman's Club Bible study leader, Missions Chairman at the Princeton Bible Church and WIAAA Worker of the Year in 1996. She was assistant youth mentor at Covenant Children's Home, where she also established a volume library. She served on the committee for the senior art show, "Art for All Ages" and gave demonstrations for Illinois Valley Fine Art Trust and Princeton Christian Academy. She served on the youth leadership committee,
missions committee, led Bible study and was a junior high Sunday school teacher at Princeton Bible Church, and prior to that, at Seatonville Congregational Church. She was a youth Bible mentor and earned the State of Illinois Senior Worker of the Year Award in 2000. Rosemary was an oil painting instructor and gave private lessons, starting in 1978.
She taught classes from her rural LaMoille home for 25 years and taught grades K-6 at the Princeton Christian Academy. She taught arts, crafts and sewing at Covenant Children's Home. She received a grant from Fine Arts Trust of the Illinois Valley, allowing her to teach her first classes. She also worked at various times for Pleasant Words International, as a manager for Christmas season at the Peru Mall, at Princeton High School as a
special education aide, and at Jefferson Grade School as a teacher's aide. She was the only person to paint the whole story of the Cherry Mine Disaster and she had collector prints produced. Many of her students were awarded grants and Hallmark awards. She was pleased that many entered the art profession and she enjoyed following
their progress through the years.
Survivors include her two daughters, Pamela Skerston of Peru and Valerie (Charles) Witzman of McNabb; two sons, Greg Schallhorn of Princeton and Mark Schallhorn of LaMoille; a foster son, Maurice Caffey; nine grandchildren, Brian (Teresa) Schallhorn of Peru, Brandon Schallhorn of LaMoille, Amy (Jim) Carpenter of Peoria, Sara Schallhorn of Chicago, Amanda Skerston of Peru, Beau Skerston of Peru, Joshua (Amy) Witzman of Lostant, Katie Witzman of McNabb, and Jonathan Witzman of McNabb; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, Harold Schallhorn, and a granddaughter in infancy.
