Samuel was the oldest of seven children. He was known as Pat or Magnus. He was raised and educated in the Youngs River area of Astoria. He married Marie Burkholder on November 26, 1902 in Astoria. Since around 1895 Magnus had been prominently associated with the restaurant business in Oregon. He first established the Imperial Grill Restaurant in Astoria, which at one time was the city's finest eating establishment. He later operated Pat's Grill and following the Astoria Fire of 1922, he re-established the Imperial Grill. He was also active in political circles and civic matters in the Astoria area.

S. GALLAGHER, RESTAURANT MAN, PASSES
S.M. "Pat" Gallagher, 55, a native Astoria and one of the best known restaurant men of the Pacific coast, died Sunday night at 11 p.m. at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland where he recently underwent a major operation for a stomach complaint with which he had suffered for over a decade.
Gallagher was born in the Tucker Creek district, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. Barney Gallagher.
He entered the restaurant business here about 35 years ago and established himself in the Imperial Grill on Commercial Street between Eleventh and Twelfth streets, where he operated for many years, conducting the leading restaurant in the city.
OPERATES GRILL
He later operated Pat's Grill on Twelfth Street near Commercial and following the Astoria fire of 1922 established the Imperial Grill at Exchange and Thirteenth.
He sold out to Peter Hlapcich who moved the establishment to Commercial Street between Twelfth and Fourteenth, its present location, in 1924. About six months later Gallagher again purchased an interest in the Imperial Grill and continued to be active in its management up until his recently severe illness.
During the long period in which he served the public, Gallagher made a host of friends and acquaintances from all parts of the world. At one time he was active in local political circles and on many occasions ws connected with civic enterprises here.
TO ANNOUNCE SERVICES
The deceased is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. Barney Gallagher; two brothers, Ike Gallagher, Astoria; Bill Gallagher, Portland; and three sisters, Mrs. Nora Newquist, Astoria; Mrs. Sarah Moore, Portland, and Mrs. Fred Mell, Salem.
Another brother, Jack Gallagher, died here several years ago.
The remains were brought to Astoria today by the Hughes Mortuary and funeral services will be announced later.
