PEKIN - Paul Edward Awe, 74, of Pekin passed away at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.

Born June 15, 1934, in Lincoln to Albert and Louise (Mayer) Awe, he married Betty L. Cavitt on December 28, 1956, in Riverton; she died July 29, 2006, in Pekin.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gary W. Awe.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. (Jeff) Tibbetts in Pekin and Cheryl A. (Dennis) Shepler of Wellington, Florida; three grandchildren, Brittney Shepler of Wellington, Bailey Tibbetts and Camryn Tibbetts, both of Pekin; one brother, Donald (Sharon) Awe of Elkhart; and three sisters, Ruth (Jim) Hodgin of North Carolina, Doris (Martin) Mappes of Indiana and Vera (Robert) McClure of Peotone.

Paul was a 1956 graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in general agriculture.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1959.

He worked for International Harvester for more than 30 years, last working in February 2009 as a salesman of International Trucks. He was a former branch manager for International in Decatur and Peoria.

Paul was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and enjoyed gardening and yard work.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home in Pekin. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
