Ina married Louis "Louie" Stegmiller, in San Francisco on July 22, 1907. In 1906 Louie, lived in the boarding house owned an operated by Ina's mother,Luella Vitt, and on the morning of April 18, 1906,Louie left the two storie wood structure around 4:30 am to sign on as carpenter at the union hall. He returned to the boarding house a few minutes before five am an went to his room on the second floor to get something before breakfast. Ina, was working on the main floor serving breakfast to the boarders and saw Louie go upstairs. It was a few minutes after five am when the earth, shook, the buildings collapsed and the sky was on fire. Ina, grabbed a fire axe, and climbed the collapsed staircase and chopped Louie's door down thus freeing him from a difficult situation. Ina,Luella and Louie walked to Daley city and watched San Francisco burn to the ground. This was the great earthquake and fire of 1906 and they had survived.
