Lois Powell Van Vleet, 80, of Stanton, died on Thursday, November 2, 2000, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Skip Hodges, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born on March 16, 1920 in Eldorado, Texas. She married Charles D. Powell on December 25, 1937 in Ozona and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1957. She later married Claude Van Vleet on May 25, 1981 and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1991.

Mrs. Van Vleet came to the community in 1954 and had worked as a receptionist for Cap Rock Electric for 25 years before retiring.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Nolan Simpson of Stanton and Mary and Danny Bellah of Woodson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kovey Powell and Billy K. and Judy Powell, all of Stanton; three sisters, Maurine Rust and Fern Humphrey, both of San Antonio and Mozelle Williams of Houston; six grandchildren, Karla Moses, Jill Luna, Dennis Simpson, Amy Judd, Kim Miller and Chad Bellah and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Hazel Miller Parks; one brother, W.C. Parks; and two sisters, Geraldine Parks and Marjorie Alexander.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Simpson, Chad Bellah, David Luna, Mark Moses, Brady Miller and Claude Judd.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1193, Stanton, TX 79782.
