Elisabeth Jane Vaughan Bishop went to be with her savior December 1, 2010.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Curtis T. Vaughan, Sr. and Edna Steves Vaughan and her husband of 60 years, Louis Polk Bishop.

Elisabeth was born in San Antonio on November 19, 1922 and graduated from Saint Mary's Hall and Sweet Briar College. Libby was a life-long resident of San Antonio where she continued her parents' tradition of community service through her involvement in many of the city's charitable, cultural, educational, and social organizations and institutions, all of which benefited from her enthusiasm, dedication, and organizational ability.

Libby loved flowers and gardening and classical music, which explained her volunteer involvement in these fields, where she not only served in local organizations, but at the state and national level.

Libby was the National President of the Symphony Women's Committee from 1963-65. She was President of the San Antonio Symphony from 1973-77 and Chairman of the Board of the Symphony from 1977-79. From 1981-83 she served as a Board Member of the American Symphony Orchestra League. She was also Chair of the Symphony Endowment Drive to raise a million dollars to match the Ford Foundation grant. For many years Libby assisted with the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She was a member of the founding committee to establish the San Antonio Garden Center, and she also served as Treasurer and Garden Chairman. Libby served as Chairman of the Garden Pilgrimage and Christmas Pilgrimage. She served as President of the Alamo Heights – Terrell Hills Garden Club for three years and served in many roles as a member of the board of the San Antonio Botanical Society. From 1987-1989 she served as Zone IX Director of the Garden Clubs of America. Libby was very active in the Junior League of San Antonio, which helped provide her with the volunteer training and education that she utilized so ably in all of her community involvements. She served the Junior League in many roles, including President and was honored by the organization as its Volunteer Extraordinaire in 1984 for her service to San Antonio. Among her other involvements, Libby served on the Board of the Charity Ball Association of which she was also President and Chairman. She served for twelve years as a Trustee of Saint Mary's Hall and as Board President from 1961-63. Libby was Vice President of the Women's Pavilion during Hemisfair in 1968. Libby also served as President of "Timely Topics", President and co-founder of the Forum, and was the Mistress of the Robes for the Order of the Alamo Court of the Tudor Rose in 1973. She was a member of the San Antonio Country Club and the Fenwick Club, and the Battle of Flowers Association. She loved flower arranging and playing bridge with her friends. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. Libby was a beautiful, gracious and intelligent lady. She charmed and inspired with her warm smile and cheerful enthusiasm.

Libby is survived by her brother, Curtis T. Vaughan, Jr., and his wife, Phyllis; nephews, Curtis T. Vaughan III and wife, Karen, Robert L. Vaughan and wife, Melissa, George C. Vaughan and wife, Claire and Dr. Richard S. Vaughan and wife, Donna; great-nieces and nephews, George, Gus, Morgan, Hayley, Rick, Torrey, Curtis IV, Avery, Ellery and Melanie Vaughan.
