Lawrence Thomas "Tommy" Aberegg

Lawrence Thomas (Tommy) Aberegg left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014. Visitation with the family will be held at the Piersall – Benton Funeral Home on Friday, July 11th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. A service honoring his life will be conducted on Saturday, July 12th at 10:00 am at Piersall-Benton Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. Burial will take place Monday, July 14th at 9:00 am at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Abilene, Texas.

Tommy, born October 1, 1937 in Wetzel County, West Virginia to L. H. and Marguerite Thomas Aberegg. He graduated from Coahoma High School and attended two years at Howard College. He married his high school sweetheart Roma Lee Mays on May 27, 1960 and they enjoyed 54 years together.

In 1960, Tommy served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He began work at an early age in the oil industry, co-owning Welcome Well Service with his father. In 1977 he moved his family to Abilene, Texas to continue in the oil industry as an independent oil producer, owning Demand Energy. He retired in 1999. Over the course of his life he served 3 years as a city councilman for the city of Coahoma, the treasurer and deacon at Anderson Street Church of Christ in Big Spring and also a deacon for many years at the University Church of Christ in Abilene, where he was a member for 37 years.

His passion and love for his Lord and Savior was evident in his work for the church and his unselfish service to others. His Christian life was an example for his children and grandchildren to follow.

He is survived by his wife, Roma Lee, two daughters, T. Lee Rodgers and husband Richard of Abilene, Kimmy Pharis and husband Russell of Abilene, six grandchildren Tate Pharis of Houston, Taylor Pharis of College Station, Dalee Rodgers and Christian Rodgers of Abilene, Kandice Nitsch and husband Bear of Abilene, and Koby Rodgers of Abilene. He had two great grandchildren Kaeden Sands and Brody Nitsch both of Abilene. Two brothers, Harold Aberegg of Sand Springs, Royce D and wife Janie of Carbon, two sisters, Brenda Amonett and husband Eldon of Denver City, and Judy Latimer and husband Bill of Sand Springs and many nieces and nephews.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Romy and Nora Lee Mays, and great grandparents.
