William was handling lumber when he was instantly killed by a moving freight car.
William had to move one of the cars to another location to complete his work. As he started the car down the grade, his foot caught on something and he fell onto the rail with the car passing over him.
Several of the workmen witnessed the accident, noticing the car running swiftly down the grade. They looked for Hoffman thinking he lost control of the car, but instead found him dead on the tracks.

Lenora Martsolf, 79, of Bristol, passed away Oct. 22, 2012 at Valley View Healthcare Center, Elkhart.
She was born Oct. 28, 1932 in Wakarusa to Raymond and Alma (Strickland) Hoffman. She is survived by her children, Sherry Ann (Greg) VanPelt of Syracuse, IN, Carol Lynn (Elwood) Heiner of St. Paul, NC, Brenda Lee Martsolf of Bristol, Guy Wade (Diane) Martsolf, Lisa Sue (James) Martsolf, and Bain Patrick (Donna) Martsolf all of Elkhart; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Glennadine Nifong of Dallas, TX, a brother, William (Barbara) Hoffman of Onalaska, TX., and her dog Peppy. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Lou Funnel and Doris Frederickson and 2 brothers, Lee and Glenn Hoffman.
Lenora retired as a waitress and bartender from The Matterhorn Restaurant and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and traveling. She was a Cubs and Notre Dame fan.
Cremation will follow visitation.
