A.H. Barry died at his home in the city at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The immediate cause of his death was grip, but he had believed to have suffered from shaking paralysis and his body at the time of the attack was naturally enfeebled, his constitution too weak to resist the disease.
Albert Henry Barry was born in Henderson county, Illinois, December 5, 1841. While still a child his parents moved to Yates, New York. When a young man he went to LaCross county, Wisconsin, from which state he enlisted in the federal army November 16, 1863 in the "1st Battery Horse Artillery Wisconsin Volunteers," with which he served until the close of the war, being mustered out at Milwaukee.
In 1867 he married Bertha Amunson who still survives him. Four children were born of this wedlock, two of whom died in infancy, the others, George A. And Agnes J (Mr. John Mills, Jr., still live to mourn the loss of a loving, faithful father. In 1887 they moved to Oregon, but two years later they came to Puyallup, where he has since resided.
He has been a member of the A.O.U.W. Since before he left Wisconsin and has been a member of L.C. Ladd Post for about seventeen years.
Mr. Barry has been distinctively a home man, having a life of devotion to his family. He was gentle, just and benevolent by nature; honest and upright in character, sympathetic in disposition. He was loved by those who knew him best and respected by all who ever came in contact with him. He was, in brief, a grand old gentleman.
