Betty Arens, age 84 of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with Rev. Timothy Podraza officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Constance, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Tuesday at the church.

Honorary Pallbearers are Janet Goeden, Verlyn Nohr, Eleanor Nelson and Mary Ann Zavadil.

Betty was born on October 12, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Leo Clemens and Beatrice Josephine (Beason) Heller. She was raised in Chicago until she was 16 and then moved to Crofton where she was a housekeeper for her Aunt Ella Gobel. She received her high school certificate and then received her LPN at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Pierre, SD. She worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD until she married Joseph L. Arens on June 2, 1954 in Crofton. They made their home on a farm south of Crofton where she lived until her death. She worked side by side on the farm with her husband in addition to raising her family of 4 children.

Betty was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Guild and the Christian Mothers. She also assisted with 4H. She liked to sew and crochet and made many afghans and baby blankets. She loved traveling to Alaska and Canada with Joe and with her family on their yearly vacation out west.

Betty is survived by 4 children, Pat and Chris Nelson of Yankton, SD; Ellie and Milo Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; Jean and William Wenzel of O'Neill, NE; Joseph and Leonarda Arens of Crofton, NE; 5 grandchildren, Jamie and Heather Arens, Meghann and Cody LaCroix, Shannon and John Lillevold, Mark Olson and Stacie and Eric Gorman, 4 great grandchildren, Ella and Merlin LaCroix and Charlotte and Eleanor Arens, a sister, Peggy Andreanos of Elmhurst, IL; 2 brothers, Richard Heller of Albuquerque, NM and John and Jeanne Heller of Naples, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Joseph on February 25, 2001 at the age of 74, a grandson, Garret Nelson, 3 sisters, Yvonne and Ernie Siems, Mary Ellen Koblinski, Patsy Grigsby and a brother Bobby Heller.
