Harold G. Bestul, age 87, Plover, WI passed away on Jan. 28, 2004, at his residence. Service was held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Plover. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Galloway. Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home in Racine assisted. Born Feb. 24, 1916, in Portage County, a son of Charles and Alma (Aanunsen) Bestul. Married Martha M. Druar on April 27, 1949, at St. Mark Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. He owned and operated a family dairy farm for numerous years until his retirement. Also employed by the Rosholt School District and then the Veterans Home in King, retiring after 13 years of service. A member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was the 1983 WI State Horseshoe Champion and was inducted into the WI State Horseshoe Hall of Fame in 1984. He was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, WI Horseshoe Pitchers Association for many years, and also competed in Senior Olympics events in central WI. Survivors include wife, Martha; seven sons, Gregory (Phyllis), West Bend, Terrance (Sharon), Chippewa Falls, Stephen (Maria), Mosinee, Christopher (Cindy), Cleveland, Randolph (Sharon), Eau Claire, Thomas (Angie), Fond du Lac, and Michael (Susan) Bestul, Racine; two daughters, LuAnn (Gene) Mueller, Hales Corners, and Laurie (Mark) Lanoue, Sterling Heights, MI; one sister, Bernice Danielson of Gurnee, IL; 22 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Preceded in death by son, the Rev. David; two sisters, Helen Shipman and Lenora Gartner; and one brother, Alton.
