Samuel Freeman Vise, 73, of Gatesville died Oct. 1 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J.W. Sellers officiating. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
He was born April 18, 1923, to the late Coan Poole and Isabella Morgan Vise in Walnut Grove, S.C. He was educated in Hamilton County and on Nov. 19, 1949, he married Ruthhelen Burreson in Waco. They resided in Hamilton and Coryell counties.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to Nov. 9, 1945. While in the Army, he received the European medal with two bronze stars, the Oak Leaf Cluster, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and two Purple Hearts.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Freeman Vise, in 1968, and his wife, Ruthhelen, in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Gebhardt of Copperas Cove; two sons, Jack C. Vise of Hart and Ted L. Vise of Waco; two sisters, Tish Wilde of Boling and Ethel S. McCreary of Eagle Lake; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
