Max N. Alderete, 62, of Las Cruces, died in an Albuquerque hospital.

Funeral mass was held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with burial following in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jaime Soliz officiated.

Alderete, a veteran of World War II, was a member of local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3242. Military burial honors were accorded by local National Guard units.

Survivors included his widow, Laura Alderete of Las Cruces; two sons, Cruz Alderete of Washington, DC, and Max Alderete Jr., Los Angeles, CA; six daughters: Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Holland, Rawlings, WY, Mrs. Arnulfo (Mary) Hernandez, Mrs. Mike (Loretta) Lucero, Debra Alderete and Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Sanchez, all of Las Cruces, and Mrs. Albert (Teresa) Camacho, Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Joe Alderete of McNary, AZ; four sisters: Inez Baca and Mrs. Tony (Amalia) Romero, both of Lakeside, AZ; Mrs. Alex (Tomasa) Martinez and Margaret Peralta, both of Reserve.

Pallbearers were Arnulfo Hernandez, Mike Lucero, Joe Sanchez, Albert Camacho, Jimmy Rivera and Dan Chavez.
