Married January 12, 1924 to Jesse T. Stone, Jr.
Katherine E. "Kate" Starks Stone, 92, of Boothwyn, Upper Chichester, a descendant of one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact, died Sept. 27 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
Born in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Henry E. and Sarah Ann Boyce Starks. She was raised in New York.
She lived for many years in Newtown Square and Aston before moving to Lutheran Knolls in Boothwyn five years ago.
She worked in the sales department of Wawa Dairy Farms for 12 years before retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Stone was a ninth-generation descendant of Pilgrim Edward Doty, who was one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact and accompanied the first landing party from the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock, Mass.
She had a special concern for the plight of the American Indian.
Mrs. Stone enjoyed reading and needlework and was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Aston.
Her husband, Jesse Turner Stone Jr., died in 1959.
She is survived by a son, David E. Stone of Middletown, Del.; seven daughters, Ruth A. Brown of Rockford, Ill., Jean M. Neel of Wapwallopen, Pa., Margaret E. Lehman of Wilmington, Del., Katherine E. Ferrell of Barclay, Md., Janet M. Goldhahn of Bethel, Jessie E. Tipton of Marietta, Ga., and Barbara L. Cage of Aston; 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, C. Emmons Starks and a grandson, Ralph Hodgson Neel, III.
Her funeral was held at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 240 Concord Road, Aston.
Burial was in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
