He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Arthur and Elsie Keen, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and later in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He is survived by his wife the former Evelyn Nickel, whom he married in 1944, and children Patricia Bogart, Arthur Keen, Rodney Keen, Sheila Surratt and Beverly Preston, as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 Great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, George C. Keen.
A son, Erdman A. Keen, and sisters Elsie E. Rines and Margaret Bentz are deceased.
