Henry H. Hulst

Henry H. Hulst, age 90, passed away on Friday, October 30, 1998 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, Iowa. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 3, 1998 at the Ashton Presbyterian Church. He was buried by his first wife at the Ashton Cemetery.

Henry, the son of Herman and Effie (Roelfson) Hulst, was born February 5, 1908, near Alton, Iowa. He lived his youth and attended country schools in the Alton and Hospers area. In March of 1936, he started farming near Archer, Iowa. On November 26, 1940, he was united in marriage to Allie Addengast. After their marriage, the couple farmed north of Sheldon. She preceded him in death on December 7, 1966. On May 17, 1968, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Koele. After their marriage, the couple remained on the family farm. He retired from farming in 1990. In May of 1997, he became a resident of the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.

Henry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashton, where he served the church as both an elder and a deacon. He also had served on the Ritter Elevator Board.

Henry is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Sheldon; one step-son, Richard Mohr of Canton, South Dakota; two step-daughters and their husbands, Mary and Gary Clay of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Iva and Ron Fylstra of Las Vegas, Nevada; five step grandchildren, thirteen step great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Groendyke of Sheldon, Iowa, Mrs. Margaret Vanden Bosch of Sanborn, Mrs. Harriet Stevens and Mrs. Gladys Ebel both of Primghar, Iowa; two brothers, Dick Hulst and Nick Hulst both of Hospers, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife Allie, step daughter, Joyce Mohr, one step great-grandchild, parents, three brothers, Ed, John and Marian, and two sisters Maggie Dolphin and Tracey Dolphin.

On my journey with ancestry...I find many people I had wished I met. Henry is one of them. He was my 1st cousin 2x removed. My grandmother was Tracy Hulst Rychart.
