Served in the Korea campaign. Attained rank of Captain in active duty with US Army. Later, was Lt. in US Army Reserve. He was a bugler and frequently played "Taps" and other military selections at funerals, memorial services, and other solemn or patriotic events, as well as playing in the event bands.

In addition to veterans' and civic activities in the community, Chappy was also a familiar face at political activities and events in Ohio's capital city.
He attended O.S.U. and was a graduate of Columbus Business School.

He was a loyal and caring friend who had many entertaining stories to share.
