Francis was born in Charles City, Iowa to Andrew S. and Agnes M. Bulawa April, 6,1915. He attended Catholic grade school and high school. Graduated from Columbia College in Rochester, Minnesota. Francis attended medical school at Creighton University in Omaha NE, graduating in 1942. While in Omaha, he met Loretta Darcy in 1940. They were married June 13, 1942 at St. John's Catholic Church on Creighton University campus. LTJG Bulawa served in the Navy from 1942-1947. He did his Surgical and OB/GYN residencies in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Omaha, NE. Dr Fran set up his medical practice in Norfolk NE. Four children were born to this union, Jean Marie (died at birth), Fran Jr., James and Rita. Dr Fran practiced medicine until August 1961 when he became ill. He went to Omaha on September 6th 1961 and died November, 28th 1961 from metastatic lung cancer. Preceding him in death were his Father and infant daughter.
