Harry was born in Fargo, North Dakota to John and Emma Paul. He grew up in Spokane, Washington with a brother, John, and sister, Evelyn. He married Mary (Marion) Curry in 1928, but she died within 2 years of their marriage, leaving him and the family to raise their young son Bobby (Robert). Harry remarried in 1932 to Lucille Moore. Harry spent many years in the fishing industry out of Anchorage, Alaska and experienced the 1964 earthquake.
