Birth: May 8, 1928
Wayne County
Missouri, USA
Death: Apr. 10, 1964
Hillsborough County
Florida, USA

Uncle Snid was the 7th of 9 children born to Scott and Delia Ann Box Alcorn who married on June 3, 1911.

His paternal grandparents were:
Lafayette Alcorn and Alice (Love) Alcorn

His maternal grandparents were:
Maston "Matthew" Wiley Box and
Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" (Seats) Box

He joined the U.S. Armed Forces in 1948 and in 1964 was a T/SGT with the Air Force and stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

Uncle Snid married Martha "Marti" Stankavich in February, 1951. They had no children.

In 1964, at 35 years of age, he passed away at MacDill Air Force Base Hospital following a massive heart attack. His body was transported from Florida to Springfield, IL for burial in Calvary Cemetery there. I remember attending his funeral, but at 11 years old I was unaware how tragic it was for my grandmother to be burying her young 35-year-old son.

Uncle Snid's obituary appeared in the 4-16-1964 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, MO, on the front page.

Ellsinore Man In Air Force Died Unexpectedly by Glen Kingen

The entire Ellsinore community was shocked and grieved Friday night when news came that T-Sgt. Walter (Snid) Alcorn died suddenly of a heart attack at Tampa Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla., where he had been stationed for some time.

He was born at Williamsville, Mo., May 28, 1928, and was a son of the late Scott Alcorn and Mrs. Delia (Boxx) Alcorn. He spent many years of his boyhood at Ellsinore, and in 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and had been in service for the past 18 years. He was at one time stationed in Alaska, and also was in Japan two years.

He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Martie Stankervitch of Springfield, Ill.; his mother, Mrs. Deal Alcorn of Ellsinore, one sister, Mrs. Mildred McGill of Cheyenne, Wyo.; seven brothers, Percy Alcorn, Scottie and Donald, all of St. Louis, Billie Joe of O'Fallon, Mo., Roy of Wilmington, Del., Merton Alcorn and Rev. Cecil Alcorn of Poplar Bluff.

The body was flown to Springfield, Ill., where funeral services and interment took place Tuesday. The funeral was conducted by a Methodist minister and the Kirlin-Eagan Funeral Home of Springfield was in charge.
