Birth: Mar. 6, 1813
Vergennes
Addison County
Vermont, USA
Death: Feb. 5, 1891

Ionia Daily Sentinel, 10 Feb 1891

Edward S. Bellamy, of Easton, died on Thursday, February 5.

Mr. Bellamy was born in the city of Vergennes, Addison county, Vt., March 6, 1813; was married to Miss Armenia Brown, in township of Youngs, Ontario, March 15, 1837, and during the following years, moved to Akron, Ohio, and engaged in the milling business, having previously learned the trade in Ontario.

In the year 1847, he removed to the township of Grattan, Kent county, Mich., and in partnership with Nathan Holmes, erected a grist mill there. In 1854, he sold his interest in the mill to Mr. Holmes, and purchased of Levi Matlee the property on section 27, in Easton, this county, and in the year 1855 or 1856, commenced the creation of a grist mill on this property, and has since resided there continuously, engaged in farming and milling until his death. His age was 78 years, lacking one month and one day.

His wife and four children Nathan E., Francis A., Alice E., and Nancey A., wife of Horace Rowley survive him. One son, Henry H., enlisted in the U. S. service Oct 2, 1861, and was killed in 1862, in Huntsville, Ala.

Mr. Bellamy was a firm believer in the doctrines of modern spiritualism during the last forty years of his life. He was a kind husband and father, honest and conscientious in all his business transactions, quiet and retiring in his
disposition, and those who knew him best found him a firm and abiding friend, devoid of deceit or duplicity.

The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon, from the family residence three miles west of the city, and was largely attended by neighbors and friends, and especially by old settlers who had known him for many years. The discourse was by L. V. Moulton, of Grand Rapids, and was in the line of the deceased's belief. Interment was in Highland Park Cemetery.
