OBIT:
Etta J. Barneycastle, formerly of Ellensburg, passed away August 3, 1997 in the Orchard House Care Center. She was born in Woodrow, Arkansas on April 28, 1904, daughter of Letha and Harvey Hipp.
Her early years were spent in Woodrow where she attended school; and later met Frank Barneycastle. They were married on February 28, 1923 and enjoyed many happy years together until his death in 1978. They moved to Ellensburg in 1938, and farmed in the Badger Pocket area. Her later years were spent in Sunnyside.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, spending much time caring for her grandchildren and lending a helping hand. Some of her fondest memories was her employment with Fitterer Brothers, Inc. and Deaton's Drapery Shop making beautiful draperies. She was a self-made gifted seamstress.
She is survived by a son, Rudy Barneycastle and wife, Mary, of Ellensburg; a daughter, Oweda Schilperoort and husband, Elmer of Sunnyside; three grandsons, Kelly Barneycastle, Les and Dennis Miller; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; three sisters, Essie Carlton of Woodrow, Arkansas, Ora Tyler of Cottonwood, Arizona and Bertha Hinkle of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by a great great grandson.
Viewing will be held at Steward and Williams Chapel on Tuesday, August 5 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 6 at High Valley Cemetery in Ellensburg.
