There are several records with different maiden name spellings: Maddison, Mattison, Madison, etc.
Olive married George Bailey in Fabius, NY, 27 April 1826. George and Olivia had 3 children: Philo C., Susan, and John M. Bailey. Susan married H. P. West, and is mentioned in J.E. Child's account below.
The following is from Child, J.E. (1905). Child's History of Waseca County, Minnesota: The Story of the Pioneers. Whiting & Luers, Publishers:
"Grandma" Bailey, almost ninety-six years of age, was one of the really old settlers of the county. She was born Oct. 13, 1803, and went to her final sleep about midnight, August 25, 1899. She was a New Yorker and resided near Utica. Her husband died in 1854, and she came West with her daughter, afterwards Mrs. West, in 1857, where she joined her son, Hon. P. C. Bailey, at Wilton. Since that time she always made her home with him. Physically she was a very remarkable woman, having enjoyed good health nearly all her life. For a number of years prior to her death, except for a few months immediately preceding her death, she made regular calls upon her old acquaintances to whom she would tell over and over some of her life experiences. She was always a welcome caller. She was "short" on professions but "long" on good works all her life. The old Wilton settlers, with many others, will cherish her memory.
Note: The bio above by Mr. Child is almost an exact copy of Mrs. Bailey's death notice in the Waseca County Herald, 9-1-1989. The Herald notice added:
The funeral took place from the residence, Sunday afternoon. Rev. D. F. Thompson, pastor of the Episcopal church, officiating and her remains rest in the Woodville cemetery. Peace to her ashes.
(Thanks to Sharon Allen for death notice information.)
