Mr. Wendell Alford, 74, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland from 9 am until 11 am on Friday, June 12, 2009. A celebration of Wendell's life will be held following visitation at 11 am at the Wright & Ferguson Chapel. Burial will be held at Tylertown Cemetery at 4 pm in Tylertown, MS.
Wendell was born on May 24, 1935, to Brewster and Vera Alford of Tylertown, MS. He had served in the National Guard for eight years. Wendell retired from McMillan Bloedel in Magnolia, MS after 30+ years as a press operator. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and sports enthusiast. His favorite pastime was watching football. He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Wendell was a member of First Baptist Church of Madison.
Wendell was predeceased by his parents and a brother, B.V. Alford, Jr. of Bogalusa, LA.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty Jean Brumfield Alford of Madison; his sons, Duane (and Jackie) Alford of Brandon, Wade Alford of Magnolia, and Bruce (and Renee) Brumfield of Madison; his daughters, Deanna (and Chris) Laciura of Osyka, Diane (and Wendell) Welch of Summit, Beverly (and Eddie) Hickey of Terry, and Billie Ann (and Keith) Myers of Star; his brother, Billy Alford of Lexie; and his sister, Annie Merle Alexander of Jayess. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Central Dialysis Center in Canton and Dr. Douglas Harkins for their loving care over the past few years. They would also like to thank the deacons of FBC Madison for their devotion and weekly service to Wendell.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Alford's memory to the FBC Madison youth or senior citizens ministry.
