Mark Covington Nosler was the third of five children born to Charles Edgar "Eddie" Nosler and Mabel Electa Covington (Nosler). The Nosler family business was grocery in Oakland,CA during the Great Depression, which ended poorly for the family, who lost the mortgage on their home in Berkeley, CA during this difficult time.
His father was adamant that Mark become an attorney, which is what he did after graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in economics. Mark then completed his law degree at Boalt Hall.
In college, Mark met the lovely and talented Barbara Kirby, a Political Science major from Dixon, CA, whom he married in 1935. There was never a deeper and more abiding love as theirs.
On his 26th birthday, he and Barbara celebrated two momentous occasions: the birth of their first daughter and passing results from the California State Bar, followed by their second daughter three years later.
Mark joined the US Navy in the early days of World War II, skillfully enlisting voluntarily, so as to avoid the prospect of being drafted into an undesired branch of service. He was trained and served as a highly skilled cryptographer in the South Pacific, using his brilliant analytical mind to decipher enemy code aboard ship. He served under Admiral "BULL" William Halsey.
After his military service, Mark resumed his career as attorney, working as deputy district attorney in Santa Rosa, finally retiring from his position with the California State Water Resources Board in the early 1970's.
He was a kind, patient, gentle family man, who delighted in spending quality time with his four grandchildren, always infusing this time with wise life lessons he had learned along life's journey.
Mark's greatest love, his wife, Barbara, whom he had lovingly nursed in her ill health several years, died the year of their 50th wedding anniversary. He was heartbroken, and survived her by less than four years.
Mark Nosler was a true "gentle"man, my grandpa, friend and confidant. He is missed each day by his family who loved him wholly and completely.
