Barbara Marie Kirby (Nosler) was the youngest of three children of Dixon Drug Company proprietor Charles Martin Kirby (son of Abraham) and Mary Wilhelmina Timm (Kirby). She was born and raised in Dixon, later to attend UC Berkeley and graduated as a Political Scientist. She and her sister, Helene Kirby (Rohwer), 18 months apart in age, were both loyal members of the Sigma Kappa sorority and were very enlightened, accomplished women of their day.
"Bobbie" was her Dixon nickname, which her beloved and adoring husband Mark Nosler rather disapproved of, because to him, it wasn't "dignified," but he also knew it was a fond term of endearment from her childhood. Barbara Kirby was Dixon Mayfair Queen of 1928. In addition, she was a first cousin to Miss Gretchen Higgins and Miss Hazel Higgns.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother of two, grandmother of four. She loved her volunteer work with the Tuesday Club of Sacramento and was an avid bridge player who delighted in having her dear friends and family close by.
"Barbara Busy Fingers" was a very capable seamstress who also gardened a beautiful yard wherever she lived, and cooked the most delicious Sunday suppers one ever tasted. Barbara was my grandma and friend, I loved her with my whole heart, and I miss her every day.
