Marsha was born in Austin Texas on August 29th, 1952 to Thomas Carl and Ruby Lee (Mikeska) Billings.
She lived in various places such as Hawaii, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Texas due to her father being in the military.
Marsha had a passion for the outdoors and spent much of her childhood at her grandparents farm riding horses, building hay forts, climbing trees and running through the fields with her family. She was a country girl at heart.
Marsha settled in Irving, Texas and graduated from MacArthur High School
She found her faith early in life, as a young adult and was a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church where she was actively involved in The New Hope Singers; a youth gospel choir
On August 31, 1970, Marsha was married to William Floyd Slate, Jr. in Tarrant County. They met when they were both members of the New Hope Singers. William drowned in a boating accident on Lake Grapevine , north of Dallas, on June 10, 1973.
She married Randall Brown February 12, 1977 in Dallas, having met him while in college.
She shared a love of sailing with her husband Randy, recently being a member of the American Airlines Sailing Club on Lake Grapevine.
She had an artistic gift, which she developed by achieving a Degree in Interior Design from University of North Texas She put great effort and skill in creating gift baskets for family and friends birthdays and holidays.
Marsha had a deep love for animals; horses and cats in particular. She grew up with her favorite horse "Pete", riding him as often as she could; often until she fell asleep on his back and he would gently walk with her back to the barn.
She had many pets in her lifetime, but one in particular "Clara", her special kitty that she loved for almost 20 years. She and Clara shared a loving bond that cannot be fully described in words.
Marsha's family and friends describe her as graceful, kind and loving. She always had a smile and radiated warmth. Her words comforted many people and her laughter lifted spirits-she loved to laugh. Knowing Marsha and having a relationship with her was a treasure, as she touched so many lives. Marsha was known for her talent to "make things beautiful". She loved to decorate anything from a room, to a gift basket, or plan an event. She personalized everything she did, touching it with love and beauty; adding a part of herself to it. Marsha was a gentle person who brought peace and comfort to friends and family; she will truly be missed.
Marsha died Wednesday September 11, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband, Randall, one sister Nancy Towne and one brother, Kenny Billings, three nieces and three nephews, two aunts, Georgia Biery and Charlene Mikeska.
