Peter Noffsinger, Jr. was born in Monroe County, Ohio, November 18, 1833 to Peter and Frances (Keene) Noffsinger. When he was ten years old his family moved to Nodaway County, Missouri. In 1853, he married Margaret Martin, daughter of Levi Martin and Anna Allen. He moved his family to Atchison County, Kansas, in 1858 or 1859, where their mailing address was P. O. Box Monrovia. Here he purchased 400 acres of which he gave land for a country school (Noffsinger School) and a cemetery (Noffsinger Cemetery). During the Civil War he worked for the government as an assistant wagon master between Kansas City and Denver, Colorado. He and Margaret had ten children:Julia, William (Bill), Missouri 'Ann', Levi, John, Amanda, Margaret, Lona, Clara and Maude. They, also, raised a foster son, Robert Johnson Ackley. Peter was orginially buried, in the Noffsinger Cemetery, but Margaret moved his body to the Effingham Cemetery in the early 1900's. His orginial monument still remains at the Noffsinger Cemetery.
