SALEM - Jean passed away early Saturday morning, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born in Grandforks, North Dakota but he and his 3 brothers moved to Salem to live with their grandmother in 1936.

Jean attended Salem schools, then joined the Army in 1953 and married his sweetheart Rosalie George while in basic training. Jean served 2 years active duty in Germany; also served 5 years in the National Guard.

Jean and Rosalie settled in Salem to raise their family. He worked for the Oregon Hwy Dept., State Sign Dept, and at times Jean would take on 2 or 3 extra part time jobs to help provide for his family. In 1972, Jean opened his own sign shop "Rustic Signs" which he ran until he retired in 2007.

He was always a man of his word in his business and personal relations. Jean enjoyed family gatherings and could always cook some mean burgers. He was a very caring and giving man who loved the Lord.

Jean was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Bud, Dwayne and Jerry.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; and children, Ronda, Brenda, Jay and Linda; also 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 1st at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home with Rigdon-Ransom, 1350 Commercial St SE. Graveside services to follow at Restlawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life potluck will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy Church at 3345 Brown Rd. Contact Brian at 971-388-5925 for details.
