Jack Pritchard Abel, Sr. passed away on February 12, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born on October 2, 1923 to Overton E. Abel and Mae Hausman Abel in Port Arthur, TX. Jack served in World War II in the U.S. 5th Army's North African and Italian campaigns. He worked as an accountant for 45 years at the Gulf Oil Company in Port Arthur before retiring and moving to Winston-Salem in 1996. He was preceded in death by his wives Elsie Stout Abel and Margaret Joffrion Abel. He is survived by his five children Jack Abel, Jr. (Rosemary), Ronnie Cummins (Rose), Molly Travis (Paul), Bonnie Abel, and Kitty Stafford (Bill). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren. Adored by his family and friends, Jack will be missed greatly. He loved sports, travel, spending time with family—he loved life and lived it fully. Those lucky enough to share life with this kind, generous, nurturing, smart, and fun-loving man have been truly blessed. The family wants to thank Barry Boneno for his friendship and spiritual guidance over the years. Those who love him are comforted by the fact that Jack lived a long and good life, died peacefully, and left many wonderful memories. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Hayworth–Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
