He worked in a Rubber factory in Akron Ohio for about ten years. He returned back to West Virginia were he worked in the coal mines until 1954.
Red married Marie Elizabeth (Heck) Campbell in 1936. She had a son (Milton Fay Campbell) from a previous marriage. Red and Marie had their first son (Billy Ray Knotts) together in November of 1940.
In 1954 the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Milton was married and had his own family and Billy Ray was attending school. Red, Marie and Bill lived in a apartment on Whitelock Street. Bill attended City College HS. Red and Marie both worked at the old Memorial Stadium on 33rd street. He worked as an Usher while Marie was the Supervisor of the concession stands. They moved to an apartment on Highland Avenue in the late 50's. They retired and moved back to West Virginia. There, they both lived in Thomas until their deaths.
Red was a tall slender man. He had red hair and a very kind demeanor.
