In 1919, Bettie was presented with a Silver Metal by the Girls Friendly Society for the heroic rescue of another society member from drowning.
She came from a very close family bond. Bettie married Huber Kington in 1919 at the Paradise Lutheran Church in Thomasville, York Co., PA. They had three children together: John Haldane in 1920, Bettie June in 1923 and Frances Carmelita in 1925.
Bettie volunteer hours as the Recreational Playground Supervisor, every summer for years. She and Huber were married for 53 years upon his death in 1972.
Bettie lived in her beloved-Cumberland until her death in 1978.
