Everett V. Carver, 87
Everett Virgil Carver, 87, formerly of Henderson County, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, in hospice care in Decatur, Ga., after a long illness.
He was the owner and operator of E.V. Carver's Woodworking Shop on Duncan Hill Road for 30 years. He was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Marion to the late James Joseph Carver and Mamie Lucille Carver.
He was a cabinetmaker and his work adorns the kitchens and bathrooms of many homes in Henderson County, as well as several businesses. In his later years, he crafted various Skroll Saw creations, which he enjoyed giving away to family, friends and visitors. Known for his expert knowledge of wood and cabinetry, he mentored many younger men throughout Henderson County in perfecting their skills.
Terry Gibbs, builder and grading specialist and one of his best friends, said, "He was the best cabinetmaker in Henderson County."
He is survived by his wife, Nell Wagner, whom he married in January 1945 and with whom he spent 61 wonderful years; two daughters, Shirley Arroyo and husband, Will, and Amy Carver of Atlanta; two grandsons, Tate Arroyo and wife, Natalie, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Stephen Arroyo of Alpharetta, Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Arroyo of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Margaret Jongema of Douglasville, Ga., and Lucille Carter of Englewood, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Engle will officiate. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mark Willis, Jerry Phillips, Max Garren, Spurgeon Styles, Jimmy Blackwell and Stanley Staton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at Shuler Funeral Home. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, Va. 22038-1131.
Shuler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
