The son of Joseph & Sarah (Meetch) Brubaker, in 1861 he was a teacher living with his family in Halifax, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 9" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes and apparently never married.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Halifax September 3, 1861, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg October 17 as a sergeant with Co. E, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and honorably discharged at term's end December 24, 1864. He was wounded but where and when remains to be discovered.

By 1890, he was living in Canton, Stark County, Ohio, but by 1920 was back in Dauphin County to live out his life. Courtesy Dennis Brandt
