Aaron Codner married Cassandra King on 1 Nov 1849 in Marion County, Indiana and had seven children - Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan), William George, America Ann (Martindale), Lydia Belinda (Yonts), Iowa Lucina (Klink), Iona Maranda (Ford), and Jennie May (Cunningham).
He joined the Union Army in the Civil War as a Private in Company I, 4th Calvary Regiment in Iowa on December 26, 1863 in Adair County, Iowa. He mustered out of service in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 8, 1865.
Before joining the Army he and his family settled on "Section 15" and they remained there for many years. In 1877 he and family migrated to Kansas, where he farmed his own land.
In the 1880 census, it is stated that both his parents were born in France.
