William Ellsworth Bird was born in Ripley, Brown County, Ohio per Civil War document.
On Aug 8, 1861 at age 22 he married Nancy Maranville in Fulton County, IL.
He joined the 103 IL US INF CoA as a PVT on August 9, 1862 at Lewistown by CPT Willison. On September 28, 1862 he and Nancy had Phebe W.
He mustered in at Peoria, IL on October 2, 1862.
Three years later he mustered out on June 21, 1865 in Louisville, KY as a Sergeant by MAJ Dickey.
An infant son was born and died, year on tombstone yet to be determined but possibly 1866.
Three years after coming home from the war they had baby Etta in 1868 but sadly she died 9 months before her Dad at the age of 2 years 51 days.
He died June 4, 1871 at the age of 32 years and 3 months just 6 years after mustering out. Phebe was 8 and Nancy 27 when he died.
I believe William to be the son of John and Phebe (Ellsworth) Bird and to have had at least a brother Thomas and a sister Mary.
At 23 he was 5'11.5" had light hair and grey eyes. He was of fair complexion. He was listed as a farmer.
