Barbara was born in Germany, immigrated & married Georg Bender. While living in New Jersey, they had 5 children between 1857 & 1863. Although unproven, a family story has stated that Georg died in a house fire. Unfortunately, she lived in a time where there was no help available for those experiencing mental health difficulties. Barbara spent the last 50+ years of her life in the Hudson County Hospital for the Insane. She died & was buried on 21 Dec 1922.
