On 10 May 1952 he married Mary Faith McLean, formerly of Augusta, in Denver, CO. He served four years in the US Air Force, where he was a gunner on a B-29 during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he returned to Augusta and later to Fairfield. He moved to Lincoln in 1958. He owned and operated a ranch there and started an outfitting business which he operated until the time of his death.
Mr Hoeffner was active in various community affairs in Lincoln: was commander of the VFW Post #3369 in 1963 and 1964, and served as President of the Professional Wilderness Outfitters Assn. He was a member of MOGA. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, according to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Faith of Lincoln; four daughters: Jackie Sparrow of Troy, Jerrie Downing and Judy Morgan, both of Helena, and Penny Jo Quie of Elk River, MN; one son, Jeff Hoeffner of Lincoln; one brother, Russell Hoeffner of Ceylon, MN; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Casket bearers were Frank Martin, Art Glaze, Kevin Cole, Les Nader, Don Martin, Kenny White and Ward Kemmer. Honorary casket bearers were Dick Klick, Dick Robinson, Jerry Jerome, Steven and Ken McLean and Buster Robinson. Military graveside services were held at the old Lincoln Cemetery.
